Stephen QuinnFootballer Stephen Quinn wishes to participate in Hull City’s premier league opener after undergoing surgery to remove an ingrown toenail.

“I had an ingrown toenail and had it out during the summer. I thought after three or four weeks off it was okay but when I started against Ferriby I felt it. I had to come back from Portugal it was so painful. It felt like a razor blade in my toe.” Quinn said regarding the ingrown toenail.

Fortunately, the footballer was able to recover quite quickly. “It was a setback but I didn’t miss too many days. I was still doing some running and biking. I kept up the fitness so I feel good.” Quinn said.

If you are suffering from severe pain due to an ingrown toenail, you should seek the help of a podiatrist like Dr. Nicholas Crismali of Crismali Foot & Ankle. Dr. Crismali can assess your condition and provide you with the right treatment and care for your feet.

Ingrown Toenails Causes

Ingrown toenails occur when a toenail grows sideways into the bed of the nail, causing pain, swelling, and possibly infection.

There are a number of risk factors for ingrown toenails. Some include cutting your nails too short, participating in strenuous sports, diabetes, obesity, and fungal infection. Some are genetically predisposed to ingrown nails, although wearing ill-fitting or damp shoes can exacerbate the problem.

There are a number of steps you can take to treat ingrown nails:

-Let your toenails grow out
-Soak the toes in hot water with antibiotic soap or Epsom salts
-Placing a piece of cotton under the affected nail may allow the toe to grow up instead of into the nail bed
